For the Graz Fairy Tale Express, an RFID audio player was developed in collaboration with the Graz Children’s Museum Frida and freD in 2014. In this process, RFID tags on the ground between the tracks are read by an RFID reader on each locomotive, and depending on the tag, different MP3 audio files are played, signals are sent via a CAN bus, or external relays are activated.

A hands-on exhibition about food for young vegetables aged 8 and above. For the exhibition “Does it taste good?,” the DMT team developed 16 interactive stations about food. Children learn about the origin of eggs, discover who ate at which place, and what can be produced from milk. They help bees pollinate flowers and collect honey. Visitors learn which foods are still edible and which should not exceed their expiration date. At other stations, gingerbread, noodles, and cakes can be made. Children learn about the transportation routes of pepper and oranges at two additional stations. Not only are food items transported, but finished meals also set off with the pizza bike. Dexterity and speed are demonstrated in the food sounds and cereal station. Children can showcase their musical talent at the kitchen radio. The kitchen scale determines the corresponding amount of vegetables or fruits based on their weight.

Children at the age from three to seven experience in the exhibition „Schneckenkratzer und Wolkenhaus“ how animals build and what humans have adopted from them.
For this exhibition, Digital Media Technologies developed 2 interactive installations in which the young visitors can paint a room with light themselves. RFID technology in brushes and walls combined with a DMX lighting solution behind the walls enable the room to be colored.
Furthermore, a memory game was developed for the target group in order to process what was seen in the exhibition.

Exhibition: Heart over Heals | MED Labor
Location: FRida & freD – The Graz Children’s Museum
The medical doll allows visitors of the MED labor to try out examination methods of a pediatrician. A doll in the size of a child, which is equipped with different sensors and RFID readers, lies on an examining table. The doll responds to provided medical items, like a stethoscope, otoscope or magnifier. At the beginning of every sequence, the doll explains with kind of pain it feels.
The visitors search for the right instrument and treat the interactive doll at the right spot. A physician explains the disease of the doll and the its therapy.

The travelling exhibition „Show me the money“ is an interactive exhibition about money and has already visited different countries and cities. The exhibition was designed by the Vienna Children’s Museum ZOOM in cooperation with the Graz Children’s Museum FRida & freD. The seventeen interactive exhibits were developed by the special field DMT.
The visitors receive a bank card and can earn and spend money during their visit. Afterwards it is possible to print an account statement, which shows which exhibit was visited and where money was spent or earned.

The exhibition „Heart over Heals“ guides children on a journey through the human body. With the metaphor of a house, visitors walk from room to room through organs and interact with them.
All data, which is collected by the visitors during their visits at the interactive stations, for example pictures, worth knowing about their body and themselves, is saved on a visitor’s card. After the visit, the guests are able to connect the collected data with additional data according to the exhibition and to print their personalized exhibition catalogue. The data can also be accessed over the internet with password protection.
The special field DMT developed for this travelling exhibition 29 interactive exhibits. The xCocos server is used for museums management and for storing the user created content.
