3D Visualization

The special field Digital Media Technologies of the Institute of Information Management offers a wide range of services in the area of 3D. Besides simple 3D models and visualizations, we plan, design and produce interactive, virtual scenes and worlds, games and simulations. Furthermore, we use the newest technologies and approaches for human-computer interaction.

We provide a variety of services and continuously develop new solutions. We would like to develop new ideas with you!

We offer:

  • Modeling
  • Animation
  • 3D games
  • Simulations
  • Interface design

Video Production

We produce video clips for interactive exhibits, for web presences as well as infomercials in our own facility. WE have a fully equipped green box and use state-of-the-art video equipment, for example to record in real 3D.

Kinect for Windows

With the Kinect for Windows, it is possible to control interactive exhibits with the human body. We created a socket to communicate with the Kinect, which provided the data in an XML-format.

For example, the Kinect is used in the projects NXP SmartCity (interactive flight through a city with RFID demos), WISP (multimedia information with gestures), ErgoTetris (Tetris which is controlled with your hands), Bodyscanner (scan of the upper body with data of the visible human project).

GameTrak

GameTrak is a 3D input device to capture 3D positions and movements. It is an attractive input device due to its little costs and the great power spectrum for applications in 3D and 2D.

For example, GameTrak is used in projects in the field of game based therapy. It is the ideal input device to measure the correct execution of therapeutic exercises.

Augmented Reality

Real and virtual rooms are merging in augmented reality (AR) applications. A good example for an AR application in the context of exhibitions is the Magic Book (exhibitions “The Human” and “discoverIT”). The information – which is printed in a real book – is used to enhance the book with 3D visualizations.

Arduino

Customized exhibits for exhibitions and museums often need customized input devices. The Arduino microcontroller offers an open source hard and software platform, and allow the development of input devices for nearly every purpose. The ideal input device is -especially in the context of exhibits for exhibitions and museums with the demand for hands-on experiences – one major part of user experience and user interaction design.
